Marcelo Portaro
The Full Story
Marcelo Portaro is a Peruvian-born guitarist and songwriter whose music blends rock, blues, funk, and pop with emotional depth and soul. He began playing guitar at 13 and left Peru at 17 to study music in Barcelona—a bold step that would shape a life of growth, sacrifice, and creativity. His lyrics often explore self-reflection and aim to inspire, rooted in real experiences and heartfelt insight.
From 2008 to 2011, Marcelo played lead guitar for Dog Leg Preacher in Marysville, WA, performing at events like Sturgis and contributing to the band’s album Abscess. He later joined Olympia-based Hitchkick in 2012–2013 before shifting focus to his solo work. Since then, he’s been quietly crafting songs that reflect his journey—facing hardship, leaving family behind, and surviving a near-death experience. Now based in the U.S. with a family he deeply cherishes, Marcelo pours his soul into music that connects, uplifts, and tells the story of a life lived with heart.
